With regards names and GW2 characters inheriting from GW1 characters, Knightsaber is more or less correct. GW1 character names will be reserved in GW2 and you will need link your GW1 and GW2 accounts to retrieve the name.

Does the merge going to effect Character Slots anyhow? I've about 17ish character slots, is just gonna addon more or some other option to link-up your characters to GW2
